Studying in other institution

If your PhD project includes research or training activities outside your usual location—whether in Italy or abroad—you must obtain authorisation from your Supervisor (or Co-Supervisor if the Supervisor is not a member of the Academic Board) and inform the PhD Office by following the specified procedures.
You may attend conferences, workshops, national and international schools, undertake internships in companies, or carry out research periods at other universities or research institutions.

If you go abroad, please note that:

  • If your stay takes place in institutions other than the PhD programme’s location, your research grant may be increased by 50%, but only for periods of at least 30 consecutive days.
  • To obtain authorisation and the grant increase, follow the specified regulations and notify the PhD Office within the required deadlines.
Before leaving

Before leaving, submit the Pre-departure form to dottorati@amm.units.it

The form must be signed by your Supervisor/Co-Supervisor and must include:

  • The exact period to be spent at another institution
  • The host subject (e.g. research organisation, university, company, etc.)
  • Your signature

IMPORTANT

  • If you fail to submit the form in advance, you will lose your right to insurance coverage and the potential grant increase
  • Before departure, check the procedures for extending your healthcare coverage abroad by contacting the ASL (Local Health Authority) of your district
Upon return

At the end of the training period, submit to dottorati@amm.units.it, including:

  • The Return form signed by your Supervisor/Co-Supervisor
    • A request for the 50% grant increase (if you have spent at least 30 consecutive days abroad)
    • Your signature
  • A declaration from the host institution confirming the activities carried out, on official letterhead, specifying the exact dates of the period

IMPORTANT

  • The declaration must be issued at the end of the period (not before) and must state dates that match or fall within the authorised period before departure, including any travel days. If these requirements are not met, the mobility period will not be recognised
  • If the declaration is in a language other than English, French, or Spanish, it must be translated and certified by the Coordinator or a member of the Academic Board
  • The 50% grant increase (for periods of at least 30 consecutive days abroad) is granted only within the limits of the available funds for your PhD

During your research or training activities, you must comply with the regulations and safety provisions in force at the host institutions.
