University fees

The University of Trieste adopts a tuition fee system, in compliance with the principles of the Right to Education, that allows students to know in advance and with certainty the total amount of university fees to be paid.

The University of Trieste’s tuition fee system

Fees are the same for all doctoral courses.

The installments may consist of the following items:

  1. duty stamp: due by all students
  2. regional tax: from 0.00 to 160.00 euro (see the cases of exemption and reduction provided, methods and terms for requesting them in the Fees and Concessions Notice)
  3. all-inclusive contribution: from 0.00 to 450,00 euro (see the cases of exemption and reduction envisaged, methods and terms for requesting them in the Fees and Concessions Notice)
  4. other allowances and contributions for other services (see art. 5 of the Fees and Concessions Notice)

If you are resident in Italy and request the University ISEE or the ISEE with a restricted core Doctorate within the established deadlines, the calculation of your taxes will be made based on this value

If you are resident abroad your taxes will automatically be calculated at a flat and reduced rate

*Students who have not taken advantage of the doctoral scholarship or have permanently renounced the doctoral scholarship in the previous academic year do not pay the all-inclusive fee.

Deadlines

The payment deadlines for enrolment in the 2025-2026 academic year are as follows:

  • 1st instalment: must be paid by the enrolment/registration deadline
  • 2nd instalment: by 27 April 2026
Payment Methods

University fees must be paid exclusively through the PagoPA payment platform.

For payments made using the Carta Docente or by another entity or company, please refer to the specific instructions provided.

Refund Procedure
To receive any refunds from the university, you must enter your bank details in the Online Student Service (Esse3) under the section Personal Data>Bank Details. The bank details provided must refer to a bank/postal account or a prepaid credit card in your name, or possibly a joint account in your name.

Exemptions and reductions

Exemptions and reductions are available:

  • If you hold a certification of disability or specific learning disorders (SLD). Please consult the page dedicated to this service and contact the Disability/SLD Office.
  • If you intend to apply for the special exemptions and reductions provided in the Call for Applications, please check the procedures and deadlines listed in Article 3 of the Call. For specific cases, submit an application by filling out the relevant form. All forms are available in Forms and certificates page.
