The research conducted in the NeSC PhD program combines both theoretical and empirical approaches, utilizing various methods—such as, for example, experimental and correlational techniques—derived from the foundational disciplines of neuroscience and cognitive science. Research activities primarily take place in the Department of Life Sciences, which supports students’ research efforts through a range of specialized laboratories, such as the labs of: Active Perception, Color Psychophysics, Spatial Perception, EEG, TMS, Eye Tracking, Sports Psychology, Thinking and Decision-Making, Infant Observation, Acting Brain, and the animal and comparative psychology lab.
These research initiatives benefit from robust local collaborations with the ASUGI (Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Giuliano Isontina) and the University of Udine, as well as national partnerships with institutions like the University of Padua, the University of Bologna, and the University of Calabria. Moreover, the NeSC PhD program has a strong international dimension, bolstered by research collaborations established by PhD board members at both the European level (e.g., Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium; Laboratoire Sciences Cognitives & Sciences Affectives, France; London Metropolitan University, UK; Ulster University, UK) and globally (e.g., Florida State University, Department of Psychology, USA).
