Research and teaching activities are carried out in collaboration by multiple departments of the University of Trieste, including Physics, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Life Sciences, and Medicine, while the administration is in charge of the Department of Physics.
The program features an extensive board and council of experts from various institutions, offering strong interdisciplinary supervision in nanotechnology research. Lecturers come from both academic and industrial sectors.
To uphold the quality of doctoral education, a Quality Assurance (QA) group is in place, consisting of professors, researchers, former students, and current PhD candidates. This group establishes standards, monitors progress, and implements best practices to ensure the high quality of the educational and research activity carried out within the program.
Student representatives and a dedicated secretariat support PhD candidates throughout their studies.

The Cyclical Review Report of the Doctorate is the process that analyzes the educational and research path of doctoral candidates to align it with the cultural and scientific evolution of the relevant scientific fields. This is achieved by leveraging international comparisons, input from stakeholders, and the opinions and improvement proposals of doctoral candidates. It is conducted at least every three years, following the model established by the University Quality Committee.
