PhD students and Research theses

The program has been active since the XXIX cycle (2014) and offers both funded and unfunded positions. Each year, the program admits a minimum of six students with scholarships funded by the two universities, with additional scholarships sometimes available through special funding provided by PhD Board members. As a result, the naming of the scholarships is closely tied to the research areas of the PhD Board members, which align with the following ERC scientific sectors: Terrestrial Ecology, Land Cover Change; Biogeochemistry, Biogeochemical Cycles, Environmental Chemistry; Soil Science; Community and Population Ecology; Biodiversity, Comparative Biology; Conservation Biology, Ecology, and Genetics; Environmental and Marine Biology; Environmental Toxicology; Prokaryotic Biology; Agricultural, Animal, Fishery, Forestry, Biochemical, and Industrial Biosciences; Biotechnology and Environmental Remediation; Animal Production; Agricultural Plant Production, Soil Biology, Crop Plant Biology; Population Genetics; Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Transcriptomics, Bioinformatics, Modeling, and Simulation.

The research funded by scholarships from both universities covers innovative and multidisciplinary fields in environmental analysis, while those supported by special scholarships - such as ministerial grants, National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) funds, or co-financed from research projects and companies - are specifically aligned with the themes outlined in the program’s selection calls.
